This is Sun Devil Cross Country

  • Sun Devil Cross Country is built on the belief that we can accomplish what others say cannot be done

Keeping Up with the Sun Devils

  • Three ASU distance alums represented Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics (Kyle Alcorn – Steeplechase, Amy Hastings – 10k, Desiree Davila – marathon). That was more than any other school in the NCAA and all were mentored by men’s coach Louie Quintana while at ASU
  • Shelby Houlihan became the first athlete in conference history to win Newcomer of the Year for both Cross Country and Track & Field in 2012-13. As a sophomore she went on to become an All-American during the cross country season - ASU's first since 2008. She also won the Pac-12 outdoor title at 1,500 meters - ASU first victory in the event since 1994
  • Nick Happe swept the Pac-12 Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for both Cross Country and Track and Field. As if that weren't good enough, he also won the Pac-12 individual title at 5,000 meters
  • The ASU men's distance team scored 25 points toward the team's total of 94 at the 2013 Pac-12 Championships, helping the team to a fourth-place finish. Only Colorado's distance team scored more team points at the competition
  • Eight new freshman on the 2011-12 women’s team (and 13 of 18 on current roster in 1st or 2nd year). It was a young team that still battled it out with top teams in the conference and one of the 31 teams in the NCAA to qualify for the national championships. Six of those individuals also qualified for the first round of the NCAA Championships outdoors

Academics

Ten members of the Arizona State University cross country team earned Pac-12 Conference All-Academic honors. Senior Nick Happe paced the way with his third consecutive Pac-12 First-Team selection. The 2012 Pac-12 Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the year was also the team’s top runner down the stretch, earning All-Conference and All-Region accolades in his final season as a Sun Devil Harrier. Happe posted the highest GPA of any student-athlete on the list with a 4.09 in finance as part of Barrett, The Honors College.
